Profile Of The South African Depression And Anxiety Group

Mental illness, and the stigma surrounding it, is a critical issue in South Africa. The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is at the forefront of patient advocacy, education and destigmatisation of mental illness in the country. Its expertise lies in assisting patients and callers throughout South Africa with mental health queries.

SADAG is a Non-Profit Organisation, a Registered Section 21 Company, with an 18a tax exemption. It has on its board a powerful team of Patients, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and General Practitioners. SADAG was established twenty years ago to serve as a support network for the thousands of South Africans who live with mental health problems. Currently, it is estimated that 1 in 5 people will, or do, suffer from a mental illness. SADAG manages a 16-line counselling-and-referral call centre, and is the voice of patient advocacy, working in urban, peri-urban, and the most rural communities across South Africa.

SADAG’s activities are carried out through:

  • A network of over 200 Support Groups throughout South Africa (including outreach groups in remote rural areas), where the community members lack access to resources and have no funds for treatment.
  • A professional counselling staff, headquartered in Sandton, Gauteng, who operate the counselling lines from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.
  • Educational materials, including free multilingual brochures on mental health issues, including depression, bipolar, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, trauma, sleeping disorders, schizophrenia, teen suicide and substance abuse.
  • A monthly newsletter is sent out to over 20 000 callers and we have DVD’s and books available.
  • A referral service to mental health professionals, and free medical treatment where available.
  • A comprehensive and informative website that can be accessed at www.sadag.org
  • SADAG offers workshops and training programmes countrywide, in various languages. These include Commercial and large Corporates, Traditional Healers, Home-Based Care Workers, Hospitals and Clinics, Correctional Facilities, Schools, Universities, Churches, and Youth Groups. Topics include Depression, Panic, Bipolar, Dealing with Stress, PTSD, Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Stigma.
  • SADAG has worked in schools in all 9 provinces, with learners, parents and educators. Our programme “Suicide Shouldn’t be a Secret” is aimed at reducing SA’s high rate of teen suicide. 9.5 % of all teen deaths are due to suicide. SADAG teaches youths that Depression is treatable and Suicide is preventable.
  • SADAG also does extensive EAPs, corporate training, and employee wellness days.
  • Powerful media campaigns designed to destigmatise mental illness and promote mental health are at the forefront of SADAG’s patient advocacy work. In order to achieve this, SADAG runs TV and radio adverts, sends out weekly press releases to print, radio and electronic media, as well as running specific campaigns to raise awareness of Bipolar Disorder, Teen Suicide, Men and Depression and Panic Disorder. SADAG has produced over a dozen radio adverts, in various languages, and 8 TV adverts. Most months, SADAG’s media exposure amounts to over R5 million.
  • SADAG is recognised for its work in rural communities in the identification of depression in HIV and Aids patients, and the training of Home-based Care Workers in how to recognise the symptoms, as well as where to access treatment for their patients. Many have started support groups in their community.

Coaching with Gail - Life Coaching - Westville - Kzn

Physical Address: Westville, Durban

Contact Person:  Gail Whitear

Telephone:  078 431 3905

Email: coachingwithgail@gmail.com

Facebook: facebook.com/Coaching-with-Gail

Services: Private and Corporate Coaching, Motivational talks,  Self development Workshops for Corporate.

I am a Christian Life Coach.
I believe that first and foremost that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Too many Christians are living a life from a human being perspective seeking a spiritual experience.  I am passionate about helping people to turn that around.
Imagine living life rooted firmly in a spiritual identity.  Our spiritual identity is limitless where our human identity is limited.  The reality is that we are both but which one is leading your life?
The world view is designed to get you to focus on that which is seen including your humanness. Gods will for us is to focus on that which is unseen.
To focus on the unseen means we transcend the seen and see the reality of its limited power over us.
The question is how do we practically and simply apply that and get a handle on what limits us so that we can remove it?
Coaching is about removing what limits us so that we can move forward and achieve what we need to.
From a Christian perspective I am called to help people remove the limitations of their human side in order to live and release their spiritual potential.
If we focus more intentionally on God and our spiritual connection to Him, then we will bring our flesh into submission. We will recognise its limitations as well as its potential and learn to bring it into alignment with God's will.
Life Coaching is a brilliant tool to help people to simply and practically apply biblical principles to reach their spiritual potential in a meaningful way.

COGS is a christian church in Durban North, South Africa.

We are a group of people who believe the Bible, and who have been reconciled to God, our Father and Creator, through the saving work of God, the Son, whose name is Jesus.

We love to live our lives together, because we believe we have been made in God's image for community living, just as God is three-in-one.

We exist on Earth to continue Jesus' work of reconciling people to God, through the power of God, the Spirit, who is still with us, working in us and through us for this purpose.

COGS has been around since 1901 in various forms, and under various names and leaderships, and still today it is our privilege to be one of the many parts and expressions of God's family in Durban and around the world.

At COGS we enjoy being together with people of all ages, races and types. Our kids worship with us, and enjoy their own relevant teaching at their level. Kids and youth groups get together at various times through the week, ladies gather for their own relational times, as do the men. Grannies and Grampa's enjoy each other's company, and basically we just like to live our lives in relationship with one another.

But also, we love to bring God's kingdom into the communities around us by community upliftment, counselling the broken-hearted and traumatised, caring for orphans, and so much more. Read up on our various "Projects" and how to "Get Involved" in the menu tabs above.

MISSION & VISION

Here at Grace Family Church our MISSION is to:

REACH the lost
DISCIPLE the found
Engage in MISSIONS & JUSTICE

Our VISION for accomplishing this mission is through five 'G's:

GRACE
All lost people matter to God, and therefore matter to us.

Through relational evangelism, we will intentionally and patiently draw people into an ever-deepening relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. (Luke 5:30-32; Luke 15; Matthew 18:14)

The grace of God should be reflected in the message, the spirit, and the style of all that we do. Empathy, mercy and gentleness should be reflected in our style and practice. (Galatians 6:1-3, Ephesians 2:8-9)

We should be culturally relevant while remaining doctrinally sound. This includes the concept of sensitively relating the gospel to our culture through our facility, media and the arts. (1 Corinthians 9:19-25)

The Sunday community gatherings inspire us to: celebrate the grace of God in our lives; remember God’s truth for our lives; serve the world God loves. Because of this all are encouraged to attend regularly and faithfully. (Acts 2:42-47)

GROWTH
Growth in depth and spiritual maturity: Full devotion to Jesus and His cause is normal for every believer. This includes the concepts of stewardship, servanthood, and the pursuit of Kingdom goals. (1 Kings 11:4; Philippians 2:1-11; 2 Corinthians 8:7)

Growth in number and capacity: Our church must be able to reproduce itself and model to other areas the grace God has given to us. This includes the concepts of multi-siting, church planting and resourcing, and assisting other like-minded churches. (2 Timothy 2:1-2; Matthew 28:18-29)

Growth in excellence: Excellence honours God and inspires people. This includes integrity, passion in ministry, transparency, and evaluation. (Colossians 3:17; Malachi 1:6-14; Proverbs 27:17)

GROUPS
Positive life change takes place best in the context of community. This includes the concepts of small groups, discipleship, vulnerability, and accountability. (Luke 6:12-13; Acts 2:44-47)

Every person at Grace should be known, cared for and included. This happens through the fostering of mutual care and a variety of ministries at Grace. (John 17:20-23)

GIFTS
All believers are gifted and called as a unified body of men and women stewarding their lives and spiritual gifts, which gives rise to an effective church. This includes the concepts of unity, servanthood, and ministry callings. (1 Corinthians 12 and 14;

Ephesians 4; Psalms 133:1)

Every believer should serve through being the right person for the right task for the right reason. This includes the concepts of empowerment, servant-leadership, strategic focus, and intentionality. (Nehemiah 1-2; Romans 12:8; Acts 6:2-5)

GENEROSITY
All believers are called to live generous lives, each giving sacrificially. This includes the concept of percentage, priority giving to the local church. (Malachi 3:10, 2 Corinthians 8)

A church should extend itself by ministering to the poor across cultures, as well as honouring and supporting other churches. This includes the concepts of missions and justice, social upliftment, and church unity. (2 Corinthians 9:1-3; James 2:15-16; Proverbs 19:17)

ALL IN THE SERVICE OF JOINING GOD'S MISSION TO
HEAL THE WORLD!
